This passage is a selection from Psalms 132-134, focusing on themes of God's covenant with David, the establishment of Zion as God's dwelling place, and the importance of brotherly unity and praising God. Let's break down each section:

God chose David and HE gave him Zion as his house.

Psalm 132: David's Covenant and Zion's Choice

This Psalm recounts David's dedication to finding a resting place for the Ark of the Covenant (God's presence).  Key points:

Verses 1-7:  It highlights David's vow to not rest until he found a suitable place for the Ark, finally locating it in Ephratah (Bethlehem). This demonstrates his deep devotion and reverence for God.

Verses 8-18: This section shifts to God's response. God promises to establish His presence amongst His people, specifically highlighting the enduring covenant with David and his lineage.  The promises include:

God's dwelling in Zion (Jerusalem).

Blessings of prosperity and provision for the city. David's descendants inheriting the throne. Victory over enemies and the exaltation of David's line.  The horn symbolizes strength and power.

The overall message is that God keeps his promises, establishing a lasting kingdom through David's lineage and making Zion the center of his worship.

Psalm 133: Brotherly Unity

This is a short Psalm emphasizing the beauty and blessing of unity among brothers:

Verses 1-3:  The imagery of anointing oil flowing down Aaron's beard and the dew of Hermon on Mount Zion symbolizes the richness and refreshing blessing that comes from harmonious relationships.  Unity brings God's blessing and even eternal life – suggesting a life full of God’s blessings.

Psalm 134: A Call to Praise

This Psalm is a simple yet powerful call to worship:

Verses 1-3: This is a nighttime call for all servants of the Lord in the temple to bless (praise) God.  It emphasizes God’s power as creator of heaven and earth and his ability to bless those who worship him from Zion.

Connecting Themes:

The three Psalms are connected thematically. Psalm 132 sets the stage by detailing God's establishment of a dwelling place in Zion, a place built upon the covenant with David. Psalm 133 then emphasizes the importance of unity within the community that worships in that place, a unity that reflects God’s own harmonious nature.

Psalm 134 concludes with a call to praise God from that dwelling place, emphasizing the act of worship as a response to God's blessings and covenant faithfulness.  The Psalms progress from a historical account of God's promises, to the ideal of community, culminating in a call to praise and worship.

God’s promise continues for historical thoughts!!
